Dreaming and standing up for that dream is what the book the book Listen To My Dream wants to convey. The book is mainly about the life of Martin Luther King, Jr. from his childhood until he died in Memphis on April 4, 1968. It speaks of how this young black boy wonders on why he is treated unlikely by other people and dreams on abolishing discrimination between the white people and the so called Negroes.

This 40 pages soft covered book is split into two insightful portions. The first part is full of narrative poem depicting the detailed life of Martin Luther King, Jr. since he was a young boy. Couple Michael and Debi Pearl, filled up this area with bright colored pictures that even little girls and boys be focused on this inspiring tale. Part two of the book displays extensive details about how Martin Luther King, Jr. influenced the civil rights movement.

The book, Listen To My Dream, begins from the time little Martin interrogated his mother why people are addressing him contrary to the others and the reason why he is a black boy. But, his aspirations of hope and service for his fellow men was stirred by the enticement of his teacher, Ms. Lemon of Oglethorpe Elementary and was set to trust in that goal.

Eventually, he was more persuaded to realize his goals into a reality when Rosa Parks declined in giving up her front seat for a white person, therefore King planned a boycott of the Montgomery bus system until such time that all colored persons are dealt with evenly. Ultimately, the Supreme Court banned racial discrimination in 1956 and both black and white share similar liberties. It closes with King’s memorial after he was murdered at Memphis in April 4, 1968.

This children’s book is a great reflection on dreaming and transforming it into reality that would make a great difference into the lives of millions of people in our world. Even though the life of Martin Luther King, Jr. is filled with details, the book, Listen To My Dream, designed an artistic method for children to pay attention and focused on a remarkable section of history. The poetic technique of the book makes it attracting to read aloud to children and the account on the life of Martin Luther makes it informative for young ones to understand how people obtained their fair privileges and even enjoy the equal rights they now have.

Listen To My Dream is an inspiration to people dreaming and wanting their dreams to become a reality. Martin Luther King, Jr. lived a life full of hope and determination worthy of all the credit even until the present days.
