Dreaming and standing up for that dream is what the book Listen To My Dream wants to convey. The book is primarily about the life of Martin Luther King, Jr. from his child years until he passed away in Memphis on April 4, 1968. It talks of how this little black boy questions why he is dealt unlikely by people and desires on eliminating racism between the white people and the alleged Negroes.

This 40 pages soft covered book is split into two insightful portions. The first part is full of narrative poem depicting the detailed life of Martin Luther King, Jr. since he was a young boy. Couple Michael and Debi Pearl, filled up this area with bright colored pictures that even little girls and boys be focused on this inspiring tale. Part two of the book displays extensive details about how Martin Luther King, Jr. influenced the civil rights movement.

The book, Listen To My Dream, started out from the time little Martin questioned his mother why people are dealing with him not like the others and how come he is a black boy. But, his aspirations of hope and service for his fellow men was stirred by the enticement of his teacher, Ms. Lemon of Oglethorpe Elementary and was set to trust in that goal.

Eventually, he was more persuaded to realize his goals into a reality when Rosa Parks declined in giving up her front seat for a white person, therefore King planned a boycott of the Montgomery bus system until such time that all colored persons are dealt with evenly. Finally, the Supreme Court banished inequality in 1956 and both black and white enjoy similar rights. It ends with King’s funeral after he was murdered at Memphis in April 4, 1968.

This children’s book is a great reflection on dreaming and transforming it into reality that would make a great difference into the lives of millions of people in our world. Although the life of Martin Luther King, Jr. is full of accounts, the book, Listen To My Dream, fashioned a creative way for children to listen and focused on a great part of history. The lyrical strategy of the book makes it appealing to read aloud to children and the account on the life of Martin Luther makes it edifying for little ones to know how people acquired their fair liberties and value the equal liberties they now have.

Listen To My Dream is an encouragement to people dreaming and wishing their dreams to be a reality. Martin Luther King, Jr. dwell a life filled with aspiration and willpower deserving of all the appreciation even until these days.
